The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for connecting pipes. A pipe connecting method according to the present invention includes: a step of longitudinally cutting a connecting pipe; a step of covering a first pipe and a second pipe adjacent to the first pipe with the cut connecting pipe; a step of sealing a region between the first pipe and an end part of the connecting pipe, and sealing the second pipe and the other end part of the connecting pipe; a step of covering a cut part of the connecting pipe with a welding mesh band; a step of covering the welding mesh band with a cover member; and a step of welding the cover member and the connecting pipe to each other by applying electricity to the welding mesh band. According to the present invention, when not only double heat-retaining pipes but also plastic pipes are connected to each other, water tightness, air tightness, and connecting strength of a connected part are improved. In addition, since a structure and process for connecting not only heat retaining pipes but also plastic pipes to each other is simple, the time to connect the pipes or repair a connecting part of the pipes is reduced.
