PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a train type determination method and a train type determination device which accurately determine a train type and can be introduced at low cost for any line.SOLUTION: In the determination method of a type of a train T of the present invention, the front shape of the train T is obtained by irradiating the front face of the train in a stop operation with measurement beam 3 from a sensor 2 while scanning the beam, measuring the measurement beam 3 reflected on the front face of the train T, and the type of the train T is determined based on the obtained front shape of the train T. Preferably, distance from the sensor 2 to the train T and data of the front shape of the train T at the distance are previously obtained, and the type of the train may be determined by using data of the front shape of the train T when the obtained distance becomes a previously determined value. |
