FIELD: physics, communications.SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an encoding method and more specifically to a method of encoding a fundamental tone period. Encoding involves calculating the fundamental tone period for time sequence signals in a predefined time interval and outputting a code corresponding thereto. In said encoding, resolution for expressing fundamental tone periods and/or fundamental tone period encoding mode is switched according to whether an index which indicates the level of periodicity and/or stationarity of the time sequence signals satisfies a condition which indicates high or low periodicity and/or stationarity.
