A pneumatic tyre with radial cord carcass has a crown reinforcement of at least two plies each extending over the whole width of the tread and whose stiffening effect is different on each side of the mid-plane by virtue of a different radial disposition of the plies on the two sides. The plies may both be of parallel metal cords, or one may be of an elastomer reinforced with metallic fragments. In one embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown), the outer ply comprises two half-width portions each parallel to the carcass ply but at different distances therefrom. The reinforcement plies may be embedded in a band of elastomer. |
