A phased array transmitter (200, 700) is disclosed comprising a vector modulator (204), a true time delay block (208) coupled to the vector modulator (204), a local oscillator phase shifter and RF-converter block (212) coupled to the true time delay block (208), and an antenna (216). The vector modulator (204) is configured to apply vector modulation to a baseband signal (202) and provide an intermediate frequency signal (206) to the true time delay block (208). The true time delay block (208) is configured to apply a true time delay to the intermediate frequency signal (206) and provide a delayed intermediate frequency signal (210) to the local oscillator phase shifter and RF-converter block (212). The local oscillator phase shifter and RF-converter block (212) is configured to multiply the delayed intermediate frequency signal by a local oscillator signal and apply a phase shift to the delayed intermediate frequency signal to provide a radio frequency signal (214) to the antenna (216) for onwards transmission. A phased array receiver is also disclosed.
