An air pollution control apparatus comprises a container (12) having a first inlet (16) and a first outlet (18), a plurality of hollow fibre membranes (14) forming a plurality of passages between the first inlet (16) and the first outlet (18) and forming a first flow path (20). The container (12) further comprises a second inlet (22) and a second outlet (24) with second flow path (26) extending in between. The apparatus also comprises a means for providing controlled pressurised gas and liquid streams along one or other of the respective first and second flow paths (20, 26). The hollow fibre membrane (14) may be hydrophobic or hydrophilic and may be made from polypropylene or polysulfone. The method of using the apparatus includes the steps of independently controlling the pressures of the gas and liquid flows, as well as the pH of the liquid, in order to disperse a gas contained within the gas flow into the liquid flow at the membrane. The gas may comprise hydrogen sulphide, sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide and/or ammonia, and the liquid may be sodium hydroxide or sulphuric acid. |
