A compression fitting comprises a body 14, sleeve 30, nut 46 and gripper 42. Body 14 has an externally threaded 18 tubular end 16, with an end face defined at its free end. Tubular end 16 has a stepped bore defining a shoulder 24. Sleeve 30, formed from a ductile material which may be annealed copper, has inner 32 and outer 34 tubular walls interconnected by a web 36, the separation between them is equal to the thickness of the wall of the pipe 12. The end of the outer wall 34 has a flange formation 38. Sleeve 30 is a clearance fit in the tubular end 16 and is longer than the larger diameter 20 of the bore of the tubular end 16. Gripper 42 is located between nut 46 and tubular end 16. When nut 46 is tightened, gripper 42 will grip the pipe 12 and compress the sleeve 30 axially until the flange 38 on the sleeve 30 engages the end face of the tubular end 16. Gripper 42 may be a splitter ring. There may be a sealing element 40 which may be an O-ring. |
