A filter-press equipped with bladder-filled frames for positive compression of filter cakes (by inflation of the bladders) after a first filtrate extraction by pressure of unfiltered liquid alone (known), is improved by covering the bladders with filter cloth and providing filtrate-removal spaces between bladders and attached filter cloths. Elastic threads, joined alternately to tops and bottoms of plates and frames, and assuming acute angles with respect to plates and frames on opening the press, may be provided, to assist in removal of "sticky" filter cakes. Frames only, or frames and plates alternately, may be provided. The inflating-medium may be heated to assist in the desiccation of the cakes.
