The objective of the present invention is to provide a coloring composition capable of forming a coloring layer with both high heat resistance and improved voltage holding ratios and a colorant suitable for the coloring composition. The solving means of the present invention is the coloring composition containing components (A), (B) and (C), wherein (A) is a xanthene colorant which has a polymerizable unsaturated group in a chromophoric part, (B) is a binder resin, and (C) is a crosslinking agent.
