<p>The liquid content of poultry manure is reduced by placing the manure in a porous filter bag of hessian or metal gauze and applying an external air pressure of 5-15 p.s.i.g. for 8-12 hours. According to the Figs. (not shown), a pressure vessel 1 has a lid 2 carrying a pressure gauge 5, a grid 3 for supporting a bag 6, and a tap 4 for applying pressure and removing extracted liquid. After application of the air pressure, further liquid is extracted by removing lid 2 and placing a heavy plate 7 on bag 6.
