A modular furniture kit comprising a plurality of elongate connecting members including connecting members of at least two different axial lengths wherein each connecting member has a stem portion with a width of length X, a plurality of rectangular panels 2 of at least two different sizes wherein the edges of the panels 8 and 10 have lengths L wherein L=na+(n-1)X, wherein the panels 2 and the connecting members have complimentary engaging means 12 which permit them to slide and wherein complimentary latching means 24 are provided to retain the panels 2 at a specific position on the connecting member. The engaging means may be a groove 12 and rail and use a dovetail. The latching mechanism may have a biased detent 26 in the form of an arm with a convex projection and a concave recess. Means may be provided for mounting draws, rods or brackets. |
