1,039,284. Retaining occupants in bed. BORG-WARNER CORPORATION. Sept. 6, 1963 [Sept. 20, 1962], No. 35387/63. Heading A4J. A collapsible restraining side 11 for a bed includes a collapsible side panel 35 comprising a top rail 50, a bottom rail 38 and a series of spaced connecting bars 40, Fig. 2 (not shown). The bottom rail 38 is secured to the horizontal portion 16 of the side rail 14 of a bed by screw assemblies 43. The bars 40 each have at their upper ends an arcuate portion 61 pivotally connected to the top rail 50 by a pin 68. The lower end of each bar 40 is pivotally mounted on bearing spacers 75 in a U-shaped portion 42 of the bottom rail 38. Resilient compressible washers 96 frictionally resist pivotal movement of bars 40 and hold the panel 35 in any given pivoted position of the bottom rail. A latch 100 is adopted to engage a pin 103 on a connecting bar 40 to hold the panel 35 in its raised position. The latch 100 is pivotally mounted on a pin 104 which is secured to a bracket 101 welded to the side rail 14. |
