[Also in Division F2] A sheet metal cage for a roller bearing is of M-shaped cross-section and has at least one lateral ring 2 or 3, Fig. 3 (not shown), the width of which is equal to the whole height of the cage. The rings 2, 3 have bridge-pieces therebetween which form pockets for rollers 8 and each bridge-piece has lateral portions 4 connected by inclined portions 7 to a middle portion 5. The rollers are retained outwardly and inwardly by the portions 4, 5 respectively and are guided by the portions 7. In the manufacture of the cage, a tubular member is formed with a bent-over edge 21, Fig. 4 (not shown), pockets 6 (Fig. 5, not shown) are stamped; a bent-over edge 31, Fig. 6 (not shown) is formed, this being facilitated by a four-part work-holding fixture which has portions passing through the pockets 6 and by a mandrel on which the cage is mounted. The cage is then formed to an M-shape cross-section by rolling, for example.
