An insert member 4 forms a gland for a water-controlling valve, the valve stem 7 passing through a dividing wall 9 in the member to control a valve closure member formed of resilient moulded material surrounding a support plate 15 and an extension 16. An 0-ring seal 10 is held against the outer side of the wall 9 by a sealing plate 11 with a grease reservoir whilst a flat ring 12 of felt or other material and preferably impregnated with fluid is held against the inner side of the wall by a clamping ring 13. A spring 6 urges the valve closure member from its seat against the action of a force P. |
