The invention proposes a method and device for protection of data in a local area network, where an intermediate device such as a gateway, acts as an intermediate agent between the local area network devices and that offers these an access to an external network such as a wide area network, and offers a protected environment for applications that are downloaded from the wide area network on the gateway. The method and device gives controlled access to the local area network resources in order to protect the data that the local area network devices share within the local area network.
