<p>The invention relates to a camera system (1) for a motor vehicle having a rotatably mounted camera unit (10), which has an optical element (11), and can be brought via a motor into an idle position and an active position, and a protective element (20), which can be guided into a closed setting and an open setting, wherein, in said closed setting, said camera unit (10) is located in its idle position externally inaccessible behind said protective element (20), and, in said open setting of said protective element (20), said camera unit (10) can be moved into said active position for image acquisition.
