Rumen manure is flushed from an intake hopper in the floor of a slaughter house to coarse and fine hammer mills in series, treated with ammonia or a nitrate to assist anaerobic decomposition, and passed to a municipal clarifying plant. Milling is effected to such an extent that the manure sinks in water. The manure may be recycled through the mills. According to the Figure (not shown), the manure is fed into a stainless steel hopper 1 having a valved outlet 4 and passed to a sewer 14. The hopper is part of two alternative systems for flushing and milling, one of which comprises valved flushing pipe 2 and mills 7 and 10. Recycling is effected by pump 21.
|
