In a device for deriving an electrical signal as a measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions comprising a measuring and a reference electrode the measuring electrode is of germanium doped with about 0.001 mol % to 1 mol % of copper and may be doped crystalline germanium. The electrode may be made sufficiently small that readings may be taken from living organisms. Dimensions and manner of treatment of a mono crystal are given together with readings obtained. |
