The present invention relates to a battery system with expandable modules, and more specifically, to a battery system having expandable modules which are attached to or separated from a basic battery installed on a vehicle with a limited capacity suitable for short-ranged travels. To solve this objective, the battery system comprises: a basic battery, device permanently installed on an electric vehicle, which includes electric components, a basic battery, and a managing unit and is electrically or mechanically connected to an expandable battery module; and the expandable battery module which is attached to or separated from the basic battery device such that the capacity of the battery is varied according to driving conditions of a user, and performs charging and discharging of the battery module according to a control signal from the basic battery device to deliver energy to the basic battery device. When a remaining energy amount of the basic battery device is smaller than a predetermined value, energy is sequentially supplied to the basic battery device according to an attachment order of the expandable battery modules, while the energy supply from the expandable battery module is stopped when the remaining energy amount of the basic battery device is not smaller than the predetermined value.
