The invention relates to methods of operating heat exchangers for combustion devices which operate using the condensing boiler technology and produce dust-containing flue gases, e.g. from the combustion of biomass. The operating method of the invention reduces the formation of dust deposits in the flue gas channels of the heat exchanger. In addition, the invention relates to improved heat exchangers which are suitable for operation in the presence of dust-containing flue gases.
