A rotary knife for a flail-mower or forage-harvester comprises an upstanding shank portion 36 and a substantially flat cutting-portion 38 integral therewith, the shank-portion being of U-section with adjacent limbs 44 in contact and a smooth, rounded, leading edge 40, this edge, where it merges into the cutting-portion gradually spreading itself from its convex shape into an enlarged flattened surface 56 terminating in a cutting edge 50, the surface being concave in a direction parallel to that of the shank portion. The knife may be made by folding a flat plate to form the shank, the under-portion of the surface 56 being hollow and re-entrant with side edges 52 converging upwardly and rearwardly to form the rear edge 42 of the shank. The shank is formed with a hole 46 to receive a link whereby, the knife is attached to the rotor. The device is shown incorporated in a tractor mounted flail-mower (Fig. 1, not shown). |
