A mobile terminal including a mode setting key and a control method thereof are provided to immediately enter into a specific operation mode by using a key of a 3 way key or a jog dial mode to user as a mode setting key. A mode setting key for setting up an operation mode is prepared. When a mode setting key is operated, a portable terminal enters an operation mode which is set up with the mode setting key(S200). After a booting, the portable terminal enters into a standby mode regardless the operation mode which is set up with the mode setting key(S210,S220). The mode setting key is either the 3 Way Key or 360 degree rotatable jog dial type. |
