A mobile electronic device includes a display which can be switched between a portrait mode and a landscape mode responding to an inertial sensor, and a camera. When the display mode is determined to be switched in response to the movement of the device, the characteristics of a user of the device such as the face of the user are imaged by the camera. When the imaged characteristics change the orientation against the display by an amount less than the threshold, the switching of the display mode is disabled and the display maintains the current mode. Another embodiment will also be described and claimed.
