The system (1) has a transmission optical fiber (6m) and a sensor placed opposite to a measuring path on a side of a strip such that a detector is adapted to detect a light signal emitted by the optical fiber. An optical reception fiber (8m) is associated with the sensor and connected to a unit (7) for receiving and processing the light signal. The optical reception fiber is adapted to route the light signal from the detector to the receiving and processing unit, which comprises a processing unit converting the received light signal from an optical sensor (4) into an electrical signal.
