PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a formulation for preserving rAAV virion.SOLUTION: A stable pharmaceutical composition comprising recombinant adeno-associated virus (AAV) virion is described. This composition provides protection of transformation potential against deletion of a recombinant AAV vector genome under conditions such as exposure to freezing and melting cycles and preservation in a glass and polypropylene vial. This composition comprises AAV virus in combination with one or more dihydric alcohols or polyhydric alcohols, and if needed, a surfactant such as sorbitan ester. A method of using this composition is described.
