PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium conveying device capable of correcting a skew of subsequent sheets which do not cause conveyance abnormality even though a preceding recording medium causes a conveyance abnormality, and an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: In a recording medium conveying device including conveying means for conveying a recording medium in a conveyance path, a gate member movable between an abutting position at which a projection part projects upstream more than the conveying means in the conveyance path and a tip of the recording medium abuts on the projection part and a retreat position to which the projection part retreats from in the conveyance path, and not-reach jam detection means for detecting a not-reach jam in the conveyance path, recording medium detection means for detecting that the tip of the recording medium reaches a predetermined position being more upstream than the gate member in the conveyance path is provided, and the movement of the gate member from the retreat position to the abutting position when the not-reach jam detection means detects a not-reach jam of the preceding recording medium is performed when the recording medium detection means detects the tip of the subsequent recording medium. |
