PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a strap tension equalizing apparatus that equalizes the tension in the strap on both sides of and in both directions from the strapping head.SOLUTION: A floating strapping head 18 includes a tensioning module 28, a separate sealing module 26 and a drive assembly 40 operably connected to the tensioning module and the sealing module and configured to move the tensioning and sealing modules toward and away from one another. The tensioning and sealing modules move laterally along a guide, together and toward and away from one another. The drive assembly is actuated to move the tensioning and sealing modules away from one another, thereby giving a tension to the strap. The tensioning and sealing modules float integrally, moving along the guide to equalize the tension in the strapping material on either side of the strapping head.
