The method involves operating a heating system by pulverized coal- and ignition burners (2) arranged in a combustion chamber (1). The long-range jets (BS1,BS2,BS3,BS4) of an ignitable fuel, particularly oil, gas or dried fine coal, are injected in a controlled manner in a selective area of the combustion chamber with high speed in the starting phase for stabilizing the operation mode. The jets are placed at unstable blazing areas, temperature reduction areas or post-combustion zones, and are burned and pulverized over there. An independent claim is included for a device for operating a heating system, particularly a steam generator, for a starting- and stopping- and partial load operation mode.
