The method involves emitting an ultrasonic signal (21) by an ultrasonic transmitter (2). The ultrasonic signal (22) is reflected at the surface (31) in a tank (1) containing the liquid (3) back to the transmitter. The propagation time and the intensity of the ultrasonic signal are measured. The inclination angle of the tank is calculated from the intensity of emitted ultrasonic signal (21) and the intensity of the received ultrasonic signal (22). The fill level of the tank is calculated from the propagation time of the ultrasonic signal and the inclination angle of the tank. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) computer program for determining fill level of tank; and (2) computer program product for determining fill level of tank.
