PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium, by which quality degradation of a formed layer is prevented and productivity is improved simultaneously.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium including a step of forming on a laminated body a magnetic recording layer, a protective layer and a lubricant layer in this order, includes: forming the lubricant layer by vapor-phase lubrication deposition method without exposing the laminated body after the formation of the protective layer to an atmosphere; and providing an area of a gas pressure P3 satisfying relations of P3>P1 and P3>P2 in a conveyance path of the laminated body to the formation of the lubricant layer after the formation of the protective layer, where a process gas pressure of the protective layer in deposition is P1 and a process gas pressure of the lubricant layer in deposition is P2. |
