The crumple zone has a longitudinal beam level (LT1) and other longitudinal beam levels (LT2,LT3), which are provided with respective lateral longitudinal beams (42,44,52). An energy absorbing element (60) is indirectly supported at the mutually associated lateral longitudinal beams, where the energy absorbing element extends over the two longitudinal beam levels. The energy absorbing element is supported on the side of the associated longitudinal beam levels through the intermediary of an associated load distribution element (62).
