PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a noise suppression method by which noise can be effectively suppressed using a device having simple structure.SOLUTION: A noise suppression method comprises: a noise measuring step of measuring a noise outside an outdoor unit 1 during the operation of the outdoor unit 1 after the outdoor unit 1 is installed; a noise analysis step of performing approximation analysis on the relationship of the strength of the noise: P(f) to the frequency: f of the noise as P(f)=1/f; a selecting step of selecting a noise insulation member 5 for attenuating the noise which is adjustable in such a manner that the relationship of strength: P(f) of attenuated noise outside the outdoor unit 1 to the frequency :f outside the outdoor unit 1 after the noise insulation member is installed is approximated as P(f)=1/fand becomes 0.5≤λ≤2, and the maximum value of the strength: P(f) of the attenuated noise outside the outdoor unit 1 becomes below the set upper-limit value while the noise insulation member 5 for attenuating the noise is installed in a housing 2 after the plurality of noise insulation members different each other in transmission characteristic representing the relationship of the transmission loss for the frequency of the noise are set as objects to be selected; and an installation step of installing the noise insulation member 5 in the housing 2.
