The device has an inflatable airbag (1) extended in an inflated condition for protecting a striking person impacting on an outer side e.g. windshield and A-pillar, of a motor car. A gas generator blows the airbag up. A gas outlet valve discharges gas from the blown up airbag, such that the gas outlet valve is to be opened by mechanical process, which is caused by impinging the person on the gas outlet valve. Ropes or tapes (5, 6) are arranged at one of ends (61, 62) of an airbag casing (3). The ropes or tapes are arranged parallel to each other.
