METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR LUMINANCE ADJUSTMENT OF IMAGES IN AN IMAGE SEQUENCE Abstract Disclosed herein are a method and apparatus for adjusting a set of luminance values associated with a set of visual elements in a frame of a video sequence. The method determines a plurality of luminance compensation values, each of the plurality of luminance compensation values being associated with a corresponding one of a plurality of s scenarios. The method determines, for each scenario, a set of adjusted luminance values based on the luminance compensation value associated with that scenario, and accumulates a plurality of sets of brightness counts and darkness counts based on a comparison of luminance values of a background model associated with the frame and each set of adjusted luminance values. Each of the sets of brightness count and darkness count is lo associated with one of the plurality of scenarios. The method calculates a metric for each of the plurality of scenarios based on a difference between the associated set of brightness count and darkness count and a sum of the associated set of brightness count and darkness count, and selects one of scenarios based on the calculated metrics.
