The present invention relates to a flexible pipe (1) comprising an internal sealing sheath (3), tensile pressure armour layers (5, 6) and a retaining layer (7) comprising a retaining strip (10) wound in a helix. The retaining strip (10) comprises strands of fibres (12) and an optical fibre (14) held together by containment means (16). The optical fibre is used as an elongation measurement sensor.
