<p>A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate which includes a switching element arranged at each pixel of an active area, a common electrode which is arranged over a plurality of pixels, a pixel electrode which is electrically connected to the switching element and is arranged at each pixel, and a first alignment film, a second substrate which includes a second alignment film facing the first alignment film, a liquid crystal layer which includes liquid crystal molecules which are held and supported between the first alignment film and the second alignment film, and a driving unit which applies a DC bias to a voltage according to a gradation displayed on the pixel and supplies a resultant voltage to the pixel electrode. Wherein, the driving unit applies a higher DC bias in a white display state in which a potential difference is produced between the pixel electrode and the common electrode than in a black display state in which the potential difference is not produced between the pixel electrode and the common electrode.</p> |
