PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hem sewing machine that can surely and efficiently perform the hem sewing with good quality without creating a local protruded portion at the end border of a fabric for rear side at beginning of sewing the fabric.SOLUTION: A hem sewing machine comprises a needle 3, a fabric presser 4, a needle plate 5 having a needle dropped portion 5a, a fabric feeding mechanism intermittently feeding a fabric W in a predetermined direction Y, a looper forming double chain stitch, a knife mechanism 7 provided in an upstream side of the fabric feeding direction than the needle plate 5, and a fabric folding guide 8 provided in a further upstream side of the fabric feeding direction Y than the knife mechanism 7. The machine further comprises a folding width temporally reducing mechanism 12 relatively moving a cut portion at the end border of the fabric end by the knife mechanism 7 and an abutment portion at the fabric end border 8c with the fabric folding guide 8 in an orthogonal direction X with the fabric feeding direction Y, such that a folded width at the end portion of the fabric W is temporally reduced than a predetermined width during setting that the end portion of the fabric W at the beginning of the sewing is folded to the rear side by the fabric folding guide 8 or during the period from when the setting to the folded state is made to when a predetermined number of stitching is reached. |
