A hoist for an elevator, wherein a motor is provided with a cylindrical stator having one axial end supported by a support base, and is also provided with a rotor disposed coaxially with the stator and rotated relative to the stator. A drive sheave is rotated by the rotation of the rotor. A suppression body for suppressing the elastic deformation of the stator is provided at the other axial end of the stator, the elastic deformation changing the radial dimension of the stator.
