METHOD FOR PRODUCING CARBON FIBER NONWOVEN FABRIC FOR PRECURSOR OF HEAT INSULATING MATERIAL AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING HEAT INSULATING MATERIAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which can produce a carbon fiber nonwoven fabric that is a precursor of a heat insulating material even when an aggregate of carbon fibers having a relatively short fiber length is used as a material, and to provide a method for producing the heat insulating material from the carbon fiber nonwoven fabric.SOLUTION: The carbon fiber nonwoven fabric for the precursor of the heat insulating material is produced by the method comprising: a fibrillating step of fibrillating a carbon fiber aggregate formed of a plurality of carbon fibers; a web forming step of mixing the fibrillated carbon fibers and a thermally adhesive fiber, and forming an air-laid web from the obtained fiber mixture; and a fiber bonding step of subjecting the air-laid web to hot air treatment, and bonding the carbon fibers in the air-laid web by using the thermally adhesive fiber. The heat insulating material is obtained by impregnating the carbon fiber nonwoven fabric with a thermosetting resin, and curing and baking the resultant material.
