A mobile communication system is provided with: a mobile station; a first base station and a second base station that can perform wireless communication with the mobile station; and a gateway station that can perform communication with the first base station and the second base station, or with the mobile station via the first base station and the second base station. In the mobile communication system, a single communication is carried out between the mobile station and the gateway station by establishing a first communication connection between the gateway station and the first base station, a first wireless communication connection between the first base station and the mobile station, and a second wireless communication connection between the second base station and the mobile station. Thus, cell transfer during communication can be performed normally and without putting a burden on the network.
