PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intraocular implantable drug delivery system, e.g. an intraocular implant, capable of releasing a therapeutic drug, e.g. an intraocular pressure depressant, at a sustained or controlled rate for a long period of time and causing little or no adverse effects.SOLUTION: A rod-shaped monolithic biodegradable intraocular implant formed by an extrusion method comprises a prostamide component and a biodegradable polymer matrix releasing an agent at a rate effective for sustained release of a therapeutically effective amount of the prostamide component for at least one week after placing an implant in an eye. |
