PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of passivating direct process solids and to provide a passivated and quenched composition resulting from the method.SOLUTION: A method of passivating direct process solids according to the present invention comprises a step of combining the direct process solids with a passivating composition comprising clay, a base, and water. A passivated composition of the present invention comprises the direct process solids and the passivating composition comprising clay, a base, and water. A quenched composition of the present invention comprises the passivated composition. The passivated composition is held for a sufficient period of time for reactive species from the direct process solids to be substantially quenched and/or oxidized. |
