The photography device of the present invention comprises: an imaging unit for outputting a photography image obtained by imaging an object to be photographed; a metadata creation unit for creating metadata based on a tag format when the imaged image is recorded; a communication unit capable of transmitting the imaged image to an external device; a metadata update unit for converting the metadata created by the metadata creation unit into data description language; and a transmission control unit for causing the metadata created by the metadata update unit to be transmitted to the external device by the communication unit when the imaged image is transmitted. Converting auxiliary data into text-format data in accordance with the transmission destination when an image file is to be transmitted promotes effective use of the auxiliary data while allowing high-speed processing.
