A sharpening guide 10 for a hand steel is disclosed. The sharpening guide 10 includes a 5 base portion 15 and a guide portion 18 releasably connected to, and spaced apart by, a biasing means 17. The base portion 15 is a body of rigid material which includes a first hole 16 and the guide portion 18 is a body of rigid material which includes an open V shaped cut-out and a second hole 20. The V-shaped cut-out is located at a first end of the guide portion 18, where the first end is coterminous with one terminal end of the 10 sharpening guide 10. The second hole 20 terminates at, or passes through, a vertex of the V-shaped cut-out with a centreline of the second hole 20 extending between two walls 23, 24 of the V-shaped cut-out. This way the V-shaped cut-out is configured to support a knife blade 30 at a predetermined angle to the centreline of the second hole 20. 15 FIGURE 1 for publication |
