A toe piece for safety ski bindings comprises a base plate adapted to be secured to the surface of the ski, a pivot pin extending perpendicularly from the base plate, an abutment member pivotably mounted on the pivot pin and adapted to be engaged by the toe of a ski boot, and a detent mechanism operable to permit pivotal movement of the abutment member when the turning moment thereon exceeds a predetermined value thereby releasing the boot from the binding, wherein the pivot pin is capable of limited movement against spring pressure transverse to the axis of the ski and in a plane parallel to the surface thereof.
