An apparatus suitable for producing an aerosol for inhalation therapy comprises a housing 24 having an inlet 27, and an outlet 35 connected by a hose 25 to a mask, not shown, a plurality of openings 31 adjacent said inlet for establishing communication with the atmosphere, a spray nozzle 16 in said inlet arranged to discharge liquid under pressure into said housing and to induce a supply of air from the atmosphere into the housing, and a plurality of baffles 32-34, 36 arranged within the housing so as to nebulize the liquid spray carried by the induced air flow. The nozzle receives the liquid under pressure from a container 17 by means of an adjustable electromagnetically operated pump. Alternatively the nozzle may be connected to a tap, Fig. 3 (not shown). A pipe 38 drains excess liquid back into the container 17. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown) medicaments are introduced into the aerosol by a wick located adjacent the inlet and by an absorbent pad located adjacent the outlet. |
