A gear generating machine comprises a tool support on which tool means are mounted for cutting motion, a work spindle on a second support, and means for moving one support relatively to the other to generate a gear, the generating train including a slide 27 connected to the movable support, adjustable means connecting the slide to a second slide 33 for proportionate movement, a rotary shaft connected to the spindle and having a ball-nut and screw connection to the second slide and ratio change gearing between the shaft and the spindle.
