1,024,083. Machine frames. A. MOOSMANN. Sept. 14, 1962 [Sept. 15, 1961], No. 35161/62. Heading B3B. [Also in Division F2] A guide for a machine tool table comprises bearing-rails 4, 7 and 9, 11 of truncated triangular cross-section treated in correspondingly shaped grooves in the machine table and frame and secured by screws 5, 8 and 10. Rolling members such as balls or rollers 14 and 17 are located between rails 4 and 7 and 9 and 11 respectively. The rail 11 and its corresponding groove are tapered longitudinally to facilitate adjustment by means of a screw 13 so as to adjust the clearances or preload the rolling elements. In an alternative embodiment an intermediate rail member is located between each pair of bearing rails and one of the rail assemblies may be inclined at 45 degrees transverse to its axis so that the carriage guide may offer transverse and vertical restraint and at the same time permit expansion and contraction due to temperature fluctuations. |
