[Also in Division G5] A marking ribbon comprises a fabric material of which each of the two faces has a pattern consisting of colour zones of a colour different from the colour of the material, the colour zones of the two faces being arranged so that they do not coincide, so that when the ribbon is stretched between two fixed points and is acted upon by wind and air currents the two faces become visible alternately and produce a flickering effect. A method of manufacturing such a ribbon includes the steps of colouring opposite faces of a flexible material with oblique spaced apart parallel coloured bands the inclinations of which, to a longitudinal axis of the material, are in opposite directions on the two faces, and then cutting out strips across the individual bands by cutting in the longitudinal direction of the material, each strip forming a ribbon. In this way the colour zones of one face can be made to overlap zones of the other face in the longitudinal direction of the ribbon and each colour zone has an elongated parallelogram shape. The coloured bands can be produced by coating or printing the material, preferably with fluorescent material, on an untreated or preferably phosphorescent white background. |
