PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel selection index for coal for fuel and a control index to safely control coal for fuel in place of volatile matter content, particularly a control method for safely carrying out the storage of coal in a cement plant or the like, the retaining in pipe lines, the retaining in cyclone bag or the like. SOLUTION: A method of using mixed coal to prevent the spontaneous ignition by fixing the blending ratio of the mixed coal so that the prescribed oxygen absorption rate of the mixed coal containing a plurality of kinds of coal is made equal to or below the oxygen absorption rate of the coal the safety of which is confirmed.
